Many of you will remember it as the place where you could find Cyril the Squirrel during childhood visits to Aviemore on family holidays. 5. Highland Folk Museum, Newtonmore
The Highland Folk Museum is Britain’s first open-air museum that is located on a land area that is mile long. The museum is alive and well and takes you on a journey through the past. The kids will be thrilled by the play park and township houses . You can lure them in with a visit to the old-fashioned sweetie shop. If you’re a fan of the novels and television series Outlander that has a huge cult following, then you’ve found the right spot. In 2014, the 1700s Highland Township was used as filming locations for the show on TV.
6. Highland Wildlife Park, Kincraig
At the Highland Wildlife Park you will discover Scottish wildlife and endangered species of the world’s mountains and tundra in a stunning Highland setting. It is the home of the UK’s first Polar bear cub for the past 25 years, it is an exciting time at the Park. As you enter the Park you are able to drive around the main reserve and then take a walk around the area on feet. This Park houses native mammals such as that of Scottish Wildcat and Capercaillie as also Amur Tigers, Snow Leopards, Polar Bears, Northern Lynx, European Grey Wolf and Japanese Macaque. We highly recommend taking the guided land rover trip round the main reserve or attending the daily talks.
