They appeared on the social scene in Belfast with a vibrant Mexican feel in 1998, establishing the Acapulco restaurant in the heart of Belfast’s aptly nicknamed Ballysnackamore.
But today regulars who have enjoyed everything from the mouth tingling chimichangas to the moreish cinnamon churros will have to face the fact that Acapulco is shutting up shop.
After 25 years of hard work and colourful food and festivities, the restaurant is now sale agreed with a new owner planning their own version of hospitality.

Still enjoying huge success despite the external pressures on Northern Ireland’s hospitality industry, Acapulco was put up for sale last month, listed as a “remarkable opportunity to purchase an established restaurant which is ready to start trading immediately in the heart of Ballyhackmore.”
The ground floor property at 257 Upper Newtownards Road, has attracted thousands of diners through the door over the last quarter of a decade including the Rock Choir East Belfast, Holywood and Ballyhackmore, who serenaded the little restaurant in the best way possible with their version of The Four Tops’ most appropriate song, Going Loco Down In Acapulco.
But now the owners have decided it is time to move on and the shift has triggered an opportunity for another business to take up the prime site on the busy upper Newtownards Road.
The sale of the £30,000 lease is agreed, including all fittings and fixtures and a new six year lease has been offered at £20,000 per year with a three-year rent reviews.
