Elmer’s Big Belfast Trail will launch this week in aid of the Northern Ireland Hospice
A herd of colourful elephants will take over Belfast City Centre over the coming weeks as part of a charity campaign.
Elmer’s Big Belfast Trail will launch on Monday, June 20, as part of a collaboration between the Northern Ireland Hospice, Wild in Art and Andersen Press, where they will bring David McKee’s popular children’s character Elmer the Patchwork Elephant to life.
The project will see the elephants placed at key landmarks around Belfast for ten weeks when they will head off on a tour of Northern Ireland, visiting Ballymena, Derry, Newry and Enniskillen before returning to Belfast for a farewell event.

At the end of it all, the Elmers will be auctioned off to the public in order to raise much needed funds for the hospice.
One of the Elmers on the trail has been especially designed to celebrate it being 21 years since the opening of the Children’s Hospice at Horizon House.
The trail also features a Learning Herd which is made up of 30 ‘Young Elmer’ sculptures, each designed and painted by local schools and youth organisations from across Northern Ireland.
